Requirement to Provide Insurance

On most vehicle loans it is prudent and required as a condition of your loan agreement to provide insurance on the vehicle you’re using as collateral on your loan.

An acceptable policy must meet the following requirements:

  1. Insured’s Name and Address
  2. Vehicle Description and VIN
  3. Comprehensive and Collision Coverages
  4. A Deductible No Higher than $500
  5. Policy Number and Current Policy Period
  6. Utah Heritage Credit Union as Loss Payee
  7. No Excluded Drivers on the Policy

GAP Coverage

GAP Coverage is Relatively Inexpensive

This coverage protects you if your car depreciates faster than your loan balance. If you auto is wrecked your insurance company may pay you only the current value of the vehicle leaving your with a loan balance that you’ll be responsible for. It’s relatively inexpensive coverage and protects you from pay this type of deficit.

You can discuss this coverage with your loan officer to see if it is right for you.

When is GAP Coverage Most Important?

GAP is especially important if you:

  • Lease a car. (it’s generally required anyway)..
  • If you finance 100% or more of the purchase price.
  • If you put a large down on your car this coverage is less important.
